First Government
The Continental Congress was the first government that lead the 13 colonies. It governed the colonies from 1774 to 1789. The first Continental Congress met in 1774 and was made up of delegates from the colonies. These delegates met up as a result of the Coercive Acts. The members of the Second Continental Congress helped write the Declaration of Independence, as well as the Articles of Confederation later on.
