After losing the battle at Trenton in 1776, in June 1777 the British started a new battle from Canada. General John Burgoyne (bur goin) lead a troop of soldiers towards Albany, New York. A group of Americans planned to stop the British near Saratoga, New York. When the 2 armies met, they fought fiercely. The Americans won and forced Burgoyne and 5,000 others to surrender.
